Quick Answer
Frigidaire's official range list covers F1 to F94, plus a dash code that just means the cooktop is locked. What each group points to.
Frigidaire's official range error code guide lists 17 codes, and the first one to check is not an F code at all. A plain dash on the display means the cooktop is locked, and Frigidaire's fix is to press OFF and hold it for 6 seconds to cancel the lock feature. No parts, no service call.
The rest are F codes, and Frigidaire groups them by what has failed: the keypad, the oven temperature probe, the communication between boards, the cooktop lockout, and the door lock.
The full Frigidaire range code list
| Code | What Frigidaire calls it | What it points to |
|---|---|---|
| - (dash) | The cooktop is locked | Press OFF and hold for 6 seconds to cancel the lock. Not a fault. |
| F1 | Shorted key pad | The control panel, not the oven itself |
| F10 | Thermal runaway | The oven detected a higher than normal temperature |
| F12 | Micro identification | Control board |
| F13 | E prompt failure | Control board memory |
| F3 / F20 / F26 | Communication error | Boards not talking to each other |
| F30 | Open probe | Oven temperature sensor circuit is open |
| F31 | Shorted probe | Oven temperature sensor circuit is shorted |
| F40 / F41 | Cooktop lock out | Cooktop lock |
| F90 / F91 / F92 / F93 / F94 | Door lock issue | The motorised oven door lock |
Source: Frigidaire's ranges error code guide. Worth being straight about something: apart from the dash code, Frigidaire's guide names each code without publishing a homeowner fix for it. We have explained what each group points to rather than inventing repair steps Frigidaire does not give.
The dash code catches people out
A dash on the display is not an error. It means the cooktop lock is on, and the surface elements will not respond until you cancel it. Frigidaire's instruction is to press OFF and hold for 6 seconds.
Like a child lock on any appliance, it gets activated by accident, usually while wiping the panel down. If your cooktop suddenly will not switch on and the oven still works, look for the dash before assuming anything has failed.
F30 and F31 explain most ovens that will not heat
These two are the ones to understand, because they are the most common real fault on a modern oven.
An oven measures its own temperature with a probe, and the control board watches that probe. F30, an open probe, usually means a broken wire or a disconnected sensor, so the board sees no circuit at all. F31, a shorted probe, means the opposite, a sensor or wiring fault where the circuit reads as closed.
Either way the oven cannot know how hot it is, so it refuses to heat rather than guessing. That is the safe behaviour, and it is why an oven can look completely dead while the clock and the controls work perfectly. If your oven is not heating but shows no code, our guide to an oven that is not heating covers elements and igniters as well.
F90 to F94: the door lock
Five codes for one subsystem tells you it has several ways to fail. The motorised door lock matters most during a self clean cycle, when the oven deliberately locks itself and runs at very high temperature.
If an oven throws a door lock code during or after a self clean, do not force the door. A lock that has jammed with the cavity still hot is doing its job. Let the oven cool completely first, which can take several hours.
F10 has its own guide
F10, thermal runaway, is the one code on this list that is a safety matter rather than an inconvenience, because it means the oven detected a higher than normal temperature. If the oven keeps heating after you switch it off, turn it off at the breaker.
We have written that one up separately, with Frigidaire's reset procedure and what usually causes it, in our guide to the Frigidaire oven F10 error. Our guide on an oven that will not turn off covers the safety steps.
What to check before booking
- Look for the dash if only the cooktop is affected, and hold OFF for 6 seconds.
- Try one power cycle at the breaker. A code that never returns may have been a glitch. One that comes straight back is a real fault.
- Note the exact code. F30 and F31 are both probe faults but opposite ones, and telling a technician which you saw narrows the job.
- If it was installed in the past 30 days, Frigidaire says to go back to your installer rather than scheduling service.

Frequently asked questions
What does a dash on a Frigidaire range mean?
The cooktop is locked. Press OFF and hold it for 6 seconds to cancel the lock feature. It is not a fault.
What is the difference between F30 and F31?
Both are oven temperature probe faults. F30 is an open probe, usually a broken or disconnected circuit. F31 is a shorted probe. The oven will not heat with either, because it cannot read its own temperature.
Why are there five door lock codes?
Frigidaire groups F90 through F94 as a door lock issue. The motorised lock has several ways to fail, and it is most active during a self clean cycle.
Can I fix a Frigidaire range error code myself?
Apart from the dash code, Frigidaire's guide names the codes without giving homeowner repair steps. A single power cycle is worth trying, but the repairs themselves need a technician.
Which code is a safety issue?
F10, thermal runaway, because the oven detected a higher than normal temperature. If the oven keeps heating after being switched off, turn it off at the breaker.
